Monday started with sunshine, smiles and lots and lots of singing. What a wonderful warm welcome we received at Church for the celebration of Harvest festival. It was lovely to see so many happy familiar faces within Claverdon School Reception class and for so many parents and carers to join us. There’s been lots of practice singing our favourite song, Big Red Combine Harvester and the children did not disappoint with a wonderful rendition. There were vegetables and fruit galore and we all enjoyed identifying them. A great big thank you to Gill Evans and the team from Noah’s story box for making the Harvest festival service such a wonderful experience for all of us.
We then continued our adventures back at Stepping Stones, exploring and investigating as we enjoy World Space Week, both our planet Earth and the surrounding solar system. Planets were created with spin art, craters made by dropping asteroids on our moon and aliens were imagined and crafted. We zoomed to the moon during music and movement, became the moon during yoga and journeyed round the solar system in cool sportz. Earth was explored in the garden, we felt the wind and watched as it blew our leaves and feathers around us. Pansies were planted to find out more about how things grow and a nature table investigated.
Continuing our fun with letters and sounds, Inky the mouse joined us for songs during the week, entertaining the children as they practiced the sound 'i'. He was very impressed as they sang Incy Wincy Spider and If you're happy and you know it. We also continued our listening games, this week trying to identify the sound location and which musical instrument was being played. We learnt about the triangle, tambourine, drum and maracas. The children eager to test their detective skills, had several turns, listening to the hidden sound, laughing in delight as they correctly guessed what they had just heard.
We still had time for a party, the children delighted to create their own play biscuits and cakes to serve for a birthday tea. Drinks were served, candles blown out, fruit and cake cut and even the play dog had a treat. The laundry was washed and ironed; and even the plates washed up. Once the babies had been put to bed our home corner was tided away for another day.
