Bear hunt. Bears, bears and more bears….it started with welcoming the wonderful Noah's story box on Monday morning with the children re-enacting a story about 'A Loving Father'. With the help of some furry companions and a little dress up, the children all showed great enthusiasm for acting out their parts. We then went on a bear hunt in yoga, becoming swishy grass, practiced our bear walking and created beautiful star snowflakes.
Meanwhile our bear counters were helping the children practice concrete counting and subitising whilst they played, filling up the five frames which had become homes for bear families, boats and queues. Bears were sorted by colour and size, shared between friends and even had a picnic. Play dough was squished, stamped and rolled, beetles created and even a few birds made as leaves became wings and sticks turned into beaks.
Jacques the bear was back with Kate, introducing the children to more colours in French and delighting the children with his antics as he tried to get out of the box and trick the children as they played the colour game. To no avail as the children successfully completed the game with much laughter. Then to keep us all on our toes we practiced bear walking in Steph's fun fitness activity requiring great endurance for all, including the play leads as we listened to instructions to follow the direction of movement.
We completed our space exploration this week too, making our own helmets, before zooming to the moon as part of music and movement, and then read and re-read a lovely story about No-Bot, the robot with no bottom. We even watched some real robots make cars courtesy of a video from JLR in Solihull. What an action packed first half of the Autumn term we have had.
We are looking forward to returning after half term to explore some new topics. The dinosaurs are back and this time they are bringing their whole prehistoric world with them. We will also be extending our exploration into People who help us, looking at many of the important roles that help keep us safe and look after us. And with so many wonderful celebrations and religious festivals as we enter the winter months, we will enjoy finding out more about them as we play. Have a wonderful half term, we look forward to welcoming our children and their families back soon.
