Festivals & Celebrations

Intent:

Finding out about what festivals and celebrations are.

Learning about the different reasons for festivals and celebrations.

Learning about the different festivals and celebrations that occur during the winter months and who celebrates them.

Find out about food from different festivals and celebrations from across the world.

Experience a real life celebration.

Implementation:
Using pictures, videos, songs, music and stories of festivals and celebrations to prompt discussion.
Sharing our real experiences of festivals and celebrations during group time activities.
Creating and playing with celebration related small worlds and themed role play. 
Experience how festivals are celebrated using art work.
Exploring what we eat during festivals and at celebrations.
Planning and creating an end of term celebration.
Creative activities to embed learning and understanding.

Impact:
Know and identify festivals and celebrations important to ourselves.
Understand that there are different reasons for celebrations and festivals.
Have a greater awareness of how celebrating different festivals can bring communities together.
Know that everyone is unique and has their own beliefs; and respect that we may celebrate different festivals and celebrations from one another.
Have a greater awareness of self and the cultures around us, fostering an open mind and respect for cultures and beliefs.
Experience a real life celebration and share the experience with others.

LETTERS, COLOURS,FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS
Please can you help support your child by bringing in items beginning with the same sound of the week and/or of the same colour of the week.  The children will have the opportunity to share and discuss the items they have 'discovered' with you at home during group times with their friends. e.g For sounds of a tractor 't' or an apple for 'a'.  
Please don't forget to label them with your name.
