December Fun

Our week began bright and early, with a wonderful trip to Claverdon Church to celebrate the start of Advent. Hand in hand, we walked round to meet the welcoming Noah's Story Box team. It's always such a wonderful occasion to meet up with our friends at Claverdon Primary School and Claverdon Village Children’s Nursery. We sang, we clapped, we laughed out loud; and enjoyed the celebrations. After a short walk back, the children enjoyed creating their own cards and delivering them to their friend's drawers. Stampers inked, hands painted, we've had lots of fun with our own post office, writing letters, sticking on stamps and colouring pictures.

The cars have been on the move round the hall, raced round racetracks and joined up with the trains. They've been counted and parked, engines revved and rolled through the play dough. Magna tiles have proved to form an excellent garage, with so many different versions created. The children working in collaboration to create tall and complex structures, some even had chutes to send the cars down. After the cars came the aeroplanes, this time, stickle brix the building material of choice, pilot and passengers carefully positioned. Wings, propeller, wheels and tail, the children enjoyed flying them round, showing each other their creations, inspiring new designs and even resulting in an amphibious vehicle.

'Onions' was the consensus as the children took it in turns to examine the bulbs, find out about the lifecycle of a daffodil and plant their own. The children all enjoyed finding the different parts of the bulb and matching them to the pictures. Upon realisation it was a springtime flower they were planting, there was excitement from some of the pre-schoolers as they remembered the yellow flowers, they had seen in the garden earlier this year. A big thank you to Natalie, one of our parents, for the donation of daffodils which have been put to great use in the garden and for great learning opportunities.

This week in Cool Sportz we've been hopping, skipping and jumping like Superheroes. The children were introduced to hurdles, which was very exciting for many, the co-ordination to get both feet over an object at the same time proved tricky, but the children persevered and 'I did it!' was exclaimed excitedly followed by a big smile as we enjoyed sharing another accomplishment. We've also been practicing following two statement commands, "go to the red and then the yellow". Another challenge for listening and comprehension, but with a little support and encouragement legs were racing to get to the right colour spot first. An activity which we all enjoyed and became a firm favourite. We will definitely be enjoying this activity again before we break for Christmas.

Christmas, just one week left of our term before we end for the festive holidays. We are looking forward to our party next week, all the children ready for our sing-along and practiced in party games and dancing. It will be wonderful to share fun and activities with our children's parents and carers. Proud to show all the children's achievements this term, be introduced to the friends they have made and enjoy some lovely crafts together.
