Veggies Assemble!

Veggies assemble! Super Tato came to visit, bringing lots of his veggie friends with him. Building on last week's exploration of some of our favourites, we turned them into super heroes. We drew, coloured, stuck and cut, as we created our heroes. Mr Potato Head joined in too with lots of his friends. There was even an impromptu football match between potatoes as the children enjoyed their play. Play with the vegetables soon turned to lovely meal creations made in our home corner and there was lots of chat about healthy eating. Picnics were prepared and meals served. Play sandwiches created and lots of snacks served by all the children. Chat continued at lunchtimes as the children compared their sandwiches, "look I've got square" "triangles!" "I'm just eating half" "look all gone!" it's a wonderful time for all the children to chat and catch up with each other. Share their weekend adventures or just chat super heroes.

We enjoyed lots of music this week too. Tracey led sessions with the keyboard, introducing the children to pitch and tone, notes and scales. All of the children enjoyed taking turns and exploring the instrument. We've been enjoying dancing to the Frog Chorus and this week we extended the experience by watching an orchestra perform the song, the children curious about the instruments they could see. Then enjoying making their own sounds with a variety of percussion instruments, a couple even sounded like a frog. Wendy's frog spawn visited us again too and the children all realised that it had changed, "no spots" "I can see tails" the tadpole outline was becoming more visible and little tails could be seen on the comma shaped spawn. We are all excited to watch its progress over the coming weeks. The children are continuing to show great enthusiasm for frogs and fascination in the their lifecycle. Prompting wonder if they could come in one morning and find lots of jumping frogs in the hall and where are mummy and daddy frog? it's started them wondering about other creatures too, a ladybird flew in and settled on the toys "look, can I hold it?" and "argh it's a spider!" magnifying glasses have been out and the children have been very keen to be out and about in the garden, digging and peeking under logs.

The daffodils are out, many in full bloom and buds are springing into life. Sadly not so for our cut daffodils, left over from last week's studies, their blooms have faded and petals dried out. Presented to our pre-schoolers to study, "they are dry, we need to take them out in the rain", "oh no, what's happened?" after examining them up close and talking about the lifecycle of a daffodil, we took them outside for one last activity. The daffodils, alongside some other foliage and flowers were forever preserved onto cloths, as the children all took turns using hammers to transfer the flower dye onto the fabric. With wonderful support from one of our parents, the children all enjoyed hammering and squashing to make their creations, proudly taking them home at the end of the day.

All aboard! trains continue to be a source of great excitement and some of the children created their own train, with driver, passengers and many destinations. Chairs neatly positioned in a very long line in the hall, excitement gathered apace and very quickly everyone was involved. Day trips organised, lots of luggage sourced and family groups created. Everyone keen to join in the fun.
