Safety first!

We continued our road safety practice this week, both inside and out. Stop, look and listen as the children practiced safe road crossing and what to do if their ball or toy goes into the road. The children proved to be quick learners and became adept at asking an adult for help and to stay safe. Revisiting our practice last week inside, we made the most of the sunshine and enjoyed going out into the village. The children, each holding a play lead's hand, demonstrated their learning and understanding as they showed us what to do at real roadsides, vigilant to the world around them and calling out as they spotted cars both passing and stationary.

Safe sitting has also been a hot topic this week. Our group times always provide the opportunity for practicing good sitting and during the day children are kindly reminded with "legs" to move out of the 'w' position during play. We've been continuing to strengthen our body core with yoga activities and lots of daily practice with physical fun. The grand old Duke of York sung with gusto as we practiced kneeling up and down in time to the lyrics. Lots of laughter and practice later; and we were all bobbing up and down in unison. Promoting core body strength and helping hip position.

"Fingers ready, we're going to the dough disco" sang the children as we all balled, patted and danced our fingers across our dough. Such a popular activity helping us all to strengthen our fingers and practice co-ordination. "I've made a ball!" a child said triumphantly; and sure enough, there sat upon his hand was a beautiful not quite perfectly formed ball! Soon others were achieving them too. Our play dough table has since been covered with them, each carefully counted, stacked, rolled and then squished into new creations.

Singing about Christmas Colours, one of our songs for our Christmas celebration has prompted no end of colour scavenger hunts, large building blocks or cars, sorted into red or green, blue or yellow, lined up or stacked. The children working together to collect their team colours, enthusiastic to find every last block, helping each other, keen to finish their colour first. Practice for the other songs has been a popular activity too, jingle bells and twinkle twinkle being spontaneously sung round the hall during play, outside in the garden and even in the bathroom. We are all very much looking forward to our Christmas sing-along in a couple of weeks' time. Our Autumn term is swiftly moving towards its end, following discussions about Thanksgiving celebrations around the world this week we are now about to start Advent and looking forward to a special Advent service at Claverdon Church next week.
