"Ooo lots of eyes!"

"It’s jelly", "eggs!". Lots of answers to the question, 'what is it?’, clues of a croak and a jump; and a child answered 'frog eggs!" Wendy had brought in some frog spawn from her pond for us all to investigate. Magnifying glasses and binoculars gave us a closer view; and we looked carefully to see if we could see any tadpoles. 'Not yet' was the conclusion. Together we researched the frog lifecycle on line and matched the stages we could see with a matching jigsaw, building the picture as the frog metamorphised from spawn to frog in front of us. We wondered how many frogs might hatch, "lots!", "many!" "10!" we tried counting but we soon lost track. 'Too many,’ said a child. We all agreed. At the end of the week the spawn was safely returned to the pond and will return once it starts to hatch.

We spotted a frog in yoga too. As part of our World Book Day celebrations this week, we all enjoyed creating animal poses to Dear Zoo, even lion's breath which was mastered by all of the children very quickly and created accurately with great attention and focus. It was a joy to experience.

This week we enjoyed a visit from the mobile library, an opportunity to change our books and find some new favourites. Books, books and more books. We all enjoyed reading our favourite books this week. Some of our wonderful parents and grandparents brought in their favourite stories too, reading to the children wonderful tales of Super Tato, Owl Babies and Peter Rabbit. We were all very appreciative of their efforts and kindness; and our children were amazing too, incredible outfits celebrating book day worn with excitement and joy, "who am i?"'I'm the dragon from Lego" "the hungry caterpillar'" I'm Super Tato!" we had super heroes and dragons, Elsa and Christopher Robin. The children all keen to share stories and books; and even have a go at writing their own.

St David's day gave us a wonderful opportunity to continue our exploration of daffodils. Now growing at speed out in the garden, we enjoyed vases of the yellow blooms inside, inspiring artwork and questions. Collages and paintings, scissors and fingers got a good work out as the children enjoyed creating. The cheerful blooms forever captured on paper and card.

Outside we had a great time enjoying the spring weather. Creating natural material pictures and starting to build our bug house. A big thank you to one of our parents for providing specialist outdoor learning support. We are looking forward to continuing our outdoor learning sessions during the coming months.

We still had time for sessions of dough disco and music and movement too. Time to cross the midline and develop our spatial awareness. Chomp like a crocodile, fly like an eagle and dance those fingers on the dance floor. We even enjoyed finishing the week moving like frogs, bopping up and down to the croaks in Frog Chorus, the children fascinated by the old animation and laughing at the croaks and dancing. We look forward to seeing the tadpoles as they hatch later in spring.
