Our hospital corner proved useful as the children tended to the injuries sustained by various toys. There were plenty of Doctors and Nurses on hand to care for the sick and the injured, with all patients making excellent recoveries. Continuing our interest in looking after our bodies, we all enjoyed more skeleton dancing, finding our backbone, leg bones and feeling the bones in our hands. We even took a closer look at x-rays of animals and birds. After drawing round our own hands and comparing sizes, we turned them into spider puppets. 'Yours’s is bigger than mine!' 'It's got 3 eyes!' 'Lots of eyes! I've got 2'. Lots of fun was then had with the puppet theatre, using our spiders and making bird puppets.
We enjoyed our own bird watch out in the garden this week, the sun shone and with bird guide frames in hand, they eagerly looked out to see and hear the local birds. Pigeons were spotted aplenty, sadly not much else was seen though we heard lots of twittering in the trees around us. Instead, we made our own birds and checked our knowledge to see which UK birds we could identify correctly. Quite a few as it turned out, our favourites the Robins and Blue Tits, because they are red and blue.
Whilst out in the garden we had a check on our daffodils, planted before Christmas, shoots are now several centimetres high. We were all eager to see whose was the tallest and very excited when we saw many of the bulbs had multiple shoots coming through the soil. We will continue to care for our daffodils as they grow and look forward to seeing them flower during spring time.
This week's phonics sessions were focused around identifying and matching the sounds we hear in the correct speed and tone. It was quite a tricky challenge, but lots of practice and fun was had, an activity we will continue to enjoy this term. The pre-schoolers also explored syllables, counting the number in each of their names and finding out who had the most.
Dough disco, scissor cutting and stickering gave all of our fingers a good work out this week. It has been wonderful to see the skills develop, making a ball of dough, switching fingers in time to the music and squishing the dough so much it oozes through our fingers.
Next week we are looking forward to a visit from outer space and our very own hairdressing and barber salon as we take a closer look at our similarities and what makes us different.
